Seeing Brian at the Keswick [Smiley Smile Message Board]

Posted: 12 Nov 2008 02:12 AM CST

So I'm going to see Brian a week from this Saturday and was wondering what are some good hot spots to visit this way? First time going (to Glenside/Philly, not to see Brian heh). What are the price ranges at Tower Records and do they sell vinyl?

thanks!

While on the subject of obscure Beach Boys related music popping up unexpectedly... I swear I heard the intro (after all the drums) of Denny's Constant Companion at the start of a Billy Bragg boot once. I'll have to look it up.

Whole album, PLUS.

Mono remaster, stereo remix, track sessions in stereo, vocal tracks in stereo and some odds & ends. This is an essential part of anyone's collection.

Howard and Robyn are treating Mike like they treat their really weird/autistic guests... they're patronizing him. They make anyone sound dumb.

I had a feeling the answer was going to cost me! Shocked

Never wanted to go there but may reconsider. The whole album is it?

Thanks.

Yuppers, the Pet Sounds Sessions Boxset.  Bliss.

Have listened to the PS podcast from 06 lately and in a few of the interviews, the songs have been played in part minus the vocals. Fantastic!

Has the whole album ever been available in that form?

If Pet Sounds was about the spirituality Brian felt in his heart, then SMiLE was about the spirituality Brian felt in his mind.

FANTASTIC statement Bill. I really agree with that!

I like me some Doors, but I think the Velvet Underground blew them out of the water.

In what way(s)?
I'd say in every way except pretentious rambling and cheesy minor-key sucking. But then you know my thoughts on the Doors...  Wink

Re: AL JARDINE - CALIFORNIA DREAMIN' SAMPLE [Smiley Smile Message Board]

"WTF? Hey, if you wanna bring it on Male Ego style, I can deliver it as good as anyone."  Evidently not.

You're living in a fool's paranoid. Why do you assume this was aimed at you?

You - "The 'occasional buyers' don't even buy Brian's solo CDs, so I doubt they'll feel moved to give Al Jardine a chance."
Me - "It isn't going to sell a lot (though I'll buy it), and certainly not to occasional buyers"

Unless it was your crack about it being a new song back in 65, but, as I said, why do you expect more from Al, particularly now?  It would be nice if he'd come up with all new songs, but that's never been his bag, so we get 'typical' Al - a few 'new' songs, some covers, some derivative stuff - all pleasantly delivered and sung well with some unnecessary guest stars (though the fact that Mike, Brian, Carl and David feature is a major plus this late in the Beach Boy game).
