I actually really like this, I think its the silliest thing ever. But it also has a lot of real talent in it. Its ridiculously clever.

Re: Bob & Sheri - fake or the real thing? [Smiley Smile Message Board]

I'm okay with paying thousands for something as long as you use it. You can't use an old stamp, obviously, so the only thing you can do is putting it in your collection... But you're using it to its maximum potential. You can drink an old bottle of wine. You can watch the painting everyday.

If you keep the bottle of wine in your cellar forever, or if you put the painting in a safe, it's just stupid. The same goes for a record. Unless you just want to sell it later and hopefully make a profit out of it...  Tongue

These prices are just ridiculous.  Roll Eyes But what bothers me the most is that the buyer will never, ever play the record. Or just once. I don't really see the point in owning a record that you'll never play.  Tongue

There are people that pay thousands for a rare postage stamp or an old bottle of whine, or even millions for a painting. So I don't see what's ridiculous about rare records going for a few hundred bucks.

Jim Hines and Bob Lizik

Thanks.  I'm familiar with the names of only a few people in Brian's band, and I'm afraid Mr. Hines and Mr. Lizik are not among them.

You're an furo do burro.

Dude, what the hell brought that on?

Which makes me wonder: is there any Beach Boy at all in who's shoes you would like to have been.
I mean: obviously every individual is interesting enough to talk about them, and we all like them for (some or most of) what they did in their musical lifes. But knowing what happened besides that (struggles within the band, the social aspects, addictions, illness, tragic deaths, legal suits), would you want to have traded places with Brian, Dennis, Carl, Mike, Al, Bruce, or David?

No I would hate to hear voices, or be addicted to anything. I would hate to have been as unhappy as him. I think it must still be wonderful to be able to make so many people happy, and it must have been great to be the singer and writer he was in his twenties, but I couldn't do it.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I can assure you that Brian's band is still together, complete, tasty, fresh as we love them.
Before the TLOS premiere in September last year, certain people claimed that Van Dyke Parks was brought in to save Brian's a.... , the same folks now say the studio album will be a disaster and band members fired...
Don't believe everything you read, but it was great fun to read this thread.  Cheesy

No...as much as I'd kill to be in his shoes circa Pet Sounds/Smile era, what came after just isn't worth it.

I got an idea Smiley  Since none of us have a clue what's going on, why don't we just enjoy the music whenever it does come out, with whoever's playing on it?  I'm not going to go ahead and get upset that somebody might not be on the album that might not ever come out that might not be better than live that..... blah.  Why don't we just wait and see what happens?

btw, I found the demos, they're pretty good!  Oxygen to the Brain is great.  IN MY OPINION, one of the most creative songs Brian's done in decades.  Stuff like "Skip the Vices Verses Jump to the Refrain!!!" or whatever he says is just 'wow!'.

The 64 dollar hypothetical question... [Smiley Smile Message Board]

I was listening to the Pet Sounds box set and it doesn't matter how many times I listen, I am always blown away at Brian's talent.

So here is the question that came to me tonight:

Would you trade places with Brian Wilson? Not just Brian circa 2008, you'd get the whole shootin' match...

Re: \ [Smiley Smile Message Board]

Well I just think Dennis was doing the most interesting stuff at the time. He could have been give 4 out of say 24 songs to do, his voice was still good enough. I didn't say that they shouldn't do some of those older songs in concert, but on this live album they didn't quite fit. Why? Because their last 9 studio albums were not in that mold. They had worked so hard to shake the old image and then to just launch back into it wasn't the right move at the time. People had Beach Boys Concert, and Live In London and they were full of old hits, In Concert was a chance to show them as a contemporary live band, and it was only half sucessful. The old songs were and are great but they were far too much of a focus on here when they had so much wonderful material from the last six to seven years. Today yes it's fine to reissue whole concerts and the oldies fit in the context of that, but again the album made the most impact in 1973 and I think it was just wrong to regress at that point.  Perhaps a two or three song oldies encore would have been ok for the album.

Alan,

The photo dates from late '74 - early '75 and was taken in the Brother Studio's tape vault in Santa Monica. The photo was taken by Ed Roach. The copy that is shown was probably from my old PetSite webpage as I enlarged the orginal photo to a higher resolution. I have even a higher resolution one.

Bob

PS - Just noticed that the link for the pic is to my old images webpage.

This picture was taken at least 30 years ago.

Sad to say that none of those tapes are in the Beach Boys' archives now.

That's the real deal, sure enough... and if it goes for $1000, someone just got a huge bargain.

Seriously, that is just too much money!! Unless you're a millionaire...
