There's also a recording going around of Dennis in 1981 with some friends jamming.

Are you referring to the Hamburger/Cocaine sessions with Brian, or to something else?

Maybe Andrew's site will prove me wrong but I don't think they recorded much from 81-83. Runaway was overdubbed in the studio. Knebworth too so that might have Dennis. I know he wasn;t on East Meets West or California Dreaming. The hamburger and cocaine tapes can hardly be called a real session though it is the most interesting thing Dennis was involved with post L.A. Light.

Did Dennis ever get a chance to hear, or play on, any of the songs that ended up on the 1985 album?

Brian did "It's just a matter of time" in an earlier form live in '83, some footage is in "American band" I believe.
As for the other songs, I don't know, but "Oh Lord" was worked on for release but didn't get finished (I guess)

Re: Muscle Beach Party [Smiley Smile Message Board]

Just for information:

The Donna Loren version of 'Muscle Bustle', a song containing the great lyric of

'Flexing up your biceps that's how it goes,
Then you turn your head and strike up a pose,
Do the 'mashed potatoes' and stick out your chest,
The guys are looking good - but the girls are looking best...'

Is included on a V.A. 'surf' compilation CD of the same title released some years ago by ACE Records in the UK.

The Donna Loren version of the song is more 'dramatic' than that of Annette, (I prefer the latter version personally).... but Annette's 'Muscle Beach Party' album is worth searching out because, (apart from the 'bonus tracks' of 'Merlin Jones' and a spoken piece titled 'The Scrambled Egghead'), the majority of tracks are either BW/GU/RC or GU/RC compositions, PLUS you get The Honeys adding vocals and harmonies...!

Isn't there a BW produced Frankie Avalon track featured on one volume of the (bootleg) Rarities series on Dumb Angel? (The title "Don't Stop Now' rings abell but not entirely sure...)

Isn't there a 1981 boot of Brian and Dennis messing around on a piano? Isn't this known as the Hamburger Sessions?

If this is what i'm thinking of, it's a 20 minute tape of songs like Oh Lord, City Blues and a few seconds of Heroes and Villains.

Endless Harmony and Johnny B. Goode during KTSA were Dennis' last sessions with the band. There's at least one documented solo Dennis session from 1982, a demo called Labor Day. It was recorded the same day as the birth of his son Gage. There's also a recording going around of Dennis in 1981 with some friends jamming.

Did Dennis ever record at a Beach Boys session after Keepin' The Summer Alive? Or was he pretty much banned from the group? I'm curios about any studio activity the group did between 1981-83. Did Dennis ever get a chance to hear, or play on, any of the songs that ended up on the 1985 album?

Bruce Johnston knew Doug Dragon from school.  He recommended Doug for the position of touring Beach Boy keyboardist, but Doug suggested his younger brother Daryl would be a better fit because he was a better trained player and/or read music better.  That's how Daryl got the gig, and Dennis D. followed later.  Bruce also knew Eddie Carter from grammar school, which is how HE got the gig (Eddie was a guitarist whom Bruce convinced to take up the bass because he'd always be able to get work that way).

Dennis D. continued to play with the Boys on a rotating basis through the end of '73.

Sexual Harassment Lawsuit Settled [Smiley Smile Dot Net]

Posted: 21 May 2008 11:29 AM CDT

Newsday.com reports the sexual harassment case involving a Beach Boys concert has been settled.

May 21, 2008

NEWARK, N.J.

Former New Jersey acting Governor Donald DiFrancesco's (dee-fran-SESS'-cohz) law firm has settled sexual harassment charges filed by an attorney.

Michele D'Onofrio alleged DiFrancesco asked her to stay an extra night in his suite to see a Beach Boys concert at an Atlantic City convention in 2002.

She also said he made lewd comments about her plans to have reconstructive surgery after breast cancer and the firm fired her in retaliation for complaining about a judge.

Terms were not disclosed and there is no admission of wrongdoing.

DiFrancesco tells The Star-Ledger of Newark there's plenty he wants to say about the settlement, but nothing he can say.

A judge earlier ruled that DiFrancesco and his partners could be questioned under oath about "consensual private relationships."

DiFrancesco was Senate president when he filled Christie Whitman's remaining term as governor in 2001 and 2002.
