Re: Sessions with Dennis after 1980 [Smiley Smile Message Board]

Walkin' On Water sounds like the Landy era maybe 84-85.

The demo of "Sweeite", "Walkin' On Water", and (IIRC) "Rings" is from 1986.
Just Brian's vocal and piano.  Brian (or someone) states the date on tape.
But the Boys DID attempt a studio recording of "Sweetie" in '81, as stated above,
with Brian-Mike-Alan rotating the lead vocals.  Never heard it so I can't comment on
it's completeness.

Didn't he have a cockney cousin in England?  Hugh Jampton?

Funny, there seems to be a dude on the blueboard all the time called Richard Head who never posts. People always namecheck him.

It's a blueboard conspiracy.

Sweetie was definitely recorded by at least Brian, Mike and Al; also, a demo recording of Brian's exists. Brian also had a tune during the period, Walkin' On Water.

There was a Wilson Brothers album. It was called Adult/Child. Call it "Adult/Child by The Wilsons with special guests Mike Love and Al Jardine and Bruce Johnston." Smiley

Brian/Dennis colaboration [Smiley Smile Message Board]

Posted: 29 May 2008 10:46 PM CDT

I know that they worked together from time to time, including the brief Cocaine sessions.  But I wish that they could have done a complete collaboration of an album! Or even a Wilson album with Carl.  Perhaps if Brian would work with Mike, Al and Bruce and call that the Beach Boys, then work with Dennis and Carl and call that the Wilsons. I wonder if this arrangement would've been possible in the late 70s.

the other Boys didn't like Brian & Dennis' new music.

Even Carl?

If he was, he'd be another sad statistic from the annals of teenage suicide.

Thanks, I know - I was just being a jackass.  (My usual contribution to this board).

I actually didn't know he'd been in the Mike and Bruce band, though, so thanks!  I'll look forward to hearing some response here to his album.

Hmmm...bass player for the Beach Boys...some big tennies to fill.

Re: Big Bag of Vegetables 9-disk set??? [Smiley Smile Message Board]

Posted: 29 May 2008 04:59 PM CDT

We've been on that trail forever.

Back in 2003, Malcolm Leo told me that he had a copy of the full "Surf's Up" track in his archive, and I about crapped my pants. But when pushed further, he clarified that it wasn't the "SU" backing track, nor anything from the studio. What he meant was the video of Brian performing the song in his living room, without the "Inside Pop" narration. Hence the "full track."

Alas, "Part 2" remains unfound. I think Alan Boyd reported a few years back that there was a tape box for that session, but it was empty. I don't want to get all mysterious sounding here. I tend to speak in grail connotations and really shouldn't. For all we know, the tape was damaged, misplaced or just never turned out. After all, Carl Wilson, Jack Rieley and Stephen Desper never came across that section back in 1971. Not sure if anyone has anything further or not.

Hahahaha! Thanks, Joe. Not sure I've made much contribution to mankind thus far, nor to the Beach Boys world. I only remember it being a lot of fun to do, despite any grumbling about it being "hard work." Mark and I had a ball working on it, and he remains a dear friend to this day.
