Re: Live in Las Vegas 1995 [Smiley Smile Message Board] Posted: 14 May 2008 06:24 AM CDT There is a blog out there that claims to have a recording of a Beach Boys concert in Las Vegas from 1995 with Brian singing the lead. Is it really Brian? The sound quality isn't that great, so it's hard to tell. Yes, Brian rejoined the Boys onstage in Vegas, April of '95, for the first time in 5 years. It was well documented in ESQ with picutures from the soundcheck and the performance appearing in the September issue. Brian sang Don't Worry Baby, Surfer Girl, and In My Room.

Re: Dennis tracks from POB/Bambu period not on the POB reissue...? [Smiley Smile Message Board] Posted: 14 May 2008 02:17 AM CDT You're absolutely right - this music certainly deserves to be heard.... But it really comes down to demand, the market, and money.... if the Caribou release does well, further releases of Dennis' music, including a lot of these unreleased gems, would probably follow. Alan, when you say if the Caribou release does well, what kind of sales figures do you think would be considered well? Would you consider Endless Harmony to have done well? I am not sure how well that package did.
Re: Help Me with Smile! (not asking for downloads) [Smiley Smile Message Board] Posted: 14 May 2008 02:16 AM CDT There's also one called Mona Kanai, which sounds like it might be a SMiLE song, but is actually a Dennis song from the Freinds era. Recorded 11/15/68, so 20/20.

Re: Help Me with Smile! (not asking for downloads) [Smiley Smile Message Board] Posted: 14 May 2008 01:14 AM CDT Indian Wisdom is written on a tape box. It's also given to a track going around, a weirdo instrumental with organ, acoustic guitar, and what might be a bouzouki. George Fell Into His French Horn isn't a song, it's a Surf's Up session. Cool Cool Water is a Wild Honey-era track. Can't Wait Too Long is Wild Honey/Friends-era. I Don't Know is a Dennis solo session from 1/16/67. Crack The Whip is not a BBs recording but a Jasper Dailey (photographer) recording. Jazz is what was recorded before I Wanna Be Around/Friday Night was put down.

Help Me with Smile! (not asking for downloads) [Smiley Smile Message Board] Posted: 13 May 2008 11:50 PM CDT Hello all! I hate to start a thread with my first post, but oh well here I am. If this is in the wrong forum, i apologize and feel free to move it accordingly. I was wondering if i could get some info on making a good Smile mix. I have and love the 2004 Brian Wilson version, but i want to hear the rest of the songs and the songs with all the Beach Boys from 66 and 67. I do have one Beach Boys Smile version, though i have no idea where i got it. I was hoping some of you all could tell me what i am missing and where to get it. I dont know much about Smile, but i suspect the sequencing on this sucks. Anyway, here is what i do have. Please critque/provide info Smile (its labeled "Millennium Edition") 1. Cabinessence - 4:39 (length) - with banjo intro and "Doing Doing Doing" at the beginning 2. Child is Father of Man - 3:36 3. Do You Like Worms? - 4:07 - with "Biciycle Rider" thing in the middle of the song 4. Good Vibrations - 3:33 5. Heroes & Villians (Barnyard Suite) - 11:00 - Bunch of crazy stuff going on in this song, including the Barnyard stuff and the "Im in great shape" part. (Sorry for the vagueness i am not really knowledgeable about the Smile sessions). 6. The Old Master Painter - 2:12 7. Our Prayer - 1:08 8. Surf's Up - 6:02 - Brian singing (i think). The first 2 or so minutes are instrumental. 9. Vegetables - 3:26 - with "mama says" in the middle. I swear this sounds like Brian singing. Did he ever do a take of "Vegetables"? 10. Vegetables (Reprise) - 2:45 - with "mama says" at the beginning 11. Wind Chimes - 2:25 12. With Me Tonight - 2:43 13. Wonderful - 4:32 - Random "Hey pretty baby..." part in the middle, then later ended by the singer (Carl i think?) almost whispering "won, won, wonderful.." Ultimately i just want get everything from the Smile sessions in order to make my own Smile, but some info on what i have and what im missing would be great. Thanks a lot!

Re: Dennis tracks from POB/Bambu period not on the POB reissue...? [Smiley Smile Message Board] Posted: 13 May 2008 09:54 PM CDT Alan, do you think there is a possibility of Dennis' solo material recorded under contract for Brother/Capitol being compiled into a release, and what hurdles would have to be jumped in order for this to come to fruition? I've heard some estimates that about a four-disc set of Dennis' unreleased stuff was possible, but since the POB reissue now, we'd scrape off about a disc or two. I'm a huge fan of Dennis and I would hate to see his solo legacy remain solely on a few years on Caribou, as great and transcendent as those years were and are. Stuff like Ecology....these tracks need to be heard at large.
