It'll be nice when we can release the original masters, as opposed to the crappy acetate bootlegs.  Wink

Agreed. As much as I like my bootleg copies of it, I usually end up thinking "I wish I could hear the masters of this"....such a great album

Today's the last day for twofer deal...instructions on how to order above.

Btw, I'm not entirely comfortable about posting about this stuff on the smiley smile board, but I know there are people on here that have asked to be notified if I or the band tours, etc.  If you want to be on my mailing list, please e-mail me at adamghost@aol.com and I'll put you on.  That way you won't miss out if I don't happen to post about something here.

thanks all...

Dunno about mediate but like the others, its a great party album if a little swamped by its production at times. My favourite INXS album is 'Listen like thieves' which has some really great songs on it, I also like X too.
They're sort of an underrated band in some ways, Michael Hutchence was a great singer in my opinion, i'm not sure about this carrying on without him business!

Is there a possibility that the lp be released by the same folk who put out the Dragon Brothers CD last year? I'd certainly buy it in a heartbeat.

I like the Smile era idea, but I'd like to see more than that.  I think a series of short vignettes...jumping to different periods of Brian's life without the stock biopic type linear narrative.  Past films about the BB's have proven the story is way too long and convoluted to attempt to tell a linear story, so why try again?

And I may be raked over the coals for this, but anybody else think Josh Hartnett would be a good choice for Brian?

Looks quite a bit like him, tall, has star appeal.  He's not exactly Marlon Brando, but I can't think of another known young actor that fits the bill more.

From Brian's Management:

It was a decision solely made by them to leave the band to concentrate on their work in Chicago.

I never considered Brian to be that prolific recording, or that extensive touring... It's too bad that Bob and Jim couldn't work on their material AND stay with Brian, maybe work it in between albums and tours. Their music must be pretty important to them to give up working with the people they were working with.

Yeah. Just imagine Scorcese, first day of shooting. Take one of Brian writing and directing the H&V rant in Wally Heider's. David Leaf just storms into the set, halts the proceedings, takes a good breath, and says:

"Martin oh Martin..... Sources, please?"

Best first 5 songs to open an album, ever?  Rock!

Guns In The Sky
New Sensation
Devil Inside
Need You Tonight
Mediate

They should've just used the first 5 as an EP and Never Tear Us Apart as a bonus...

Not the best 5 songs ever, but as an opener to an album, holy merda!

I've heard them. Just Brian and others telling dirty jokes.

That's about it to be honest.

i just read in Keith Badman's Beach Boys Diary about some joke tracks Brian cut around 65 or 66
with a girl telling jokes titled Dick and Fuzz. has anyone ever heard these?

Just listening to it for the first time ever. HOLY MOLY if that isn't one of the lost 60's classics, I don't what is!! Inventive, fresh and damned out of this world. Wow. Puts anything J&D post 66 accident to shame.

It'll be nice when we can release the original masters, as opposed to the crappy acetate bootlegs.  Wink

I had the pleasure of meeting Jim & Bob at the Cannery the afternoon before Brian's Vegas show in '06.  Very nice guys indeed.  It'll be weird seeing BW without Bob's smiling face and Jim flaling away on the kit.   But, good to see Mikey back.

It's a deal with the devil. Pro's and cons to all.

Being Brian, you get to be able to write great songs, eat alot, lay in bed, eat cake, get to be married to that fox Marilyn (grrrrroowwwl!), get lots of money, get a good head of hair. You also get the stress of having to produce hits, a father breathing down your neck, hitting you in the head with a two-by-four, getting brainwashed by Landy, appearing awkward during television appearances you really want no part of, being pushed out onto a stage when you suffer from severe mental illness.

Mike - get to be lead singer, score alot with the ladies, have the tranquility found from perfecting transendental meditation (Mick Jagger is CHICKENmerda!), lots of money and nice rings, songwriting royalties. But then you gotta lose your hair, pay dozens of women alimony, get into lawsuits every couple weeks, get blamed for the demise of Smile when it probably wasn't 100% your fault, get blamed for steering the Beach Boys into bland, corporate nostalgia territory when it was the only choice as the "artists" in the band either died or wasted away on drugs.

Carl - hmmm. He really is a kind of enigma, isn't he? Aside from the '78 tour when he was a wreck, he seemed to be pretty together most of the time. But that's what makes me suspsicious. What was going on underneath it all? Who knows. You get to play on stage with a tight band, get to sing great songs, have a nice family. Heck, the only bad side to being Carl would be having to be raised in the Wilson household and, well, dying too young.

Dennis- a short ride, but he made every second count, no? Girls girls girls. For some, that might be all you need. Get to be coolest guy in Beach Boys, but also deal with addiction, personal demons, and again, dying too young.

Al - what's so bad about being Al? Seems like he has a good life, nice home at Big Sur, good family, get's to make music with friends. Maybe his royalty checks aren't as big as Mike and Brian, but it's not all about the money. Besides,  you have a degree in dentistry to fall back on. Yeah, you know what? It ain't a bad deal being Al.

Bruce - Meh.
