I ordered my copies of both the 2cd and 3LP at KingKong Records (Leeuwarden). CD costs €20,- the 3LP €36 something. So that 50 Euro's is a pure rip-off...

Hmmm... When I asked the guy behind the counter to order it, I looked on his screen with him and that was actually the price on his wholesale price list... So I know he wasn't ripping me off... But maybe he should look for a different distributor then...

Cool Brian Story. [Smiley Smile Message Board]

Just got my copy.  Grin €17.99 at Kroese in Arnhem. They seemed to have quite a few copies back there, but I had to ask for it.

Hope you guys have been as lucky.

...and a bump to this thread as well...!

In honor of Harry Nilsson's birthday weekend, I've decided, for this weekend only, to provide free mp3 downloads of The Simple Carnival's latest release, "Me and My Arrow." (The title track is a cover of a Harry Nilsson song.)

The "Me and My Arrow" EP contains "Really Really Weird," so if you like the video, you might enjoy the other tracks as well. It's available to anyone who signs up for The Simple Carnival's e-mail list. I send out only about one e-mail a month and don't share your e-mail address with anyone.

You can sign up here:

Hope this isn't too spammy, but hey, it's free! Smiley

Thanks again for the nice comments about the video, and for letting me bend your ear!

You know, If you lined up EVERY SINGLE PERSON Brian ever knew from the years 1966-1967, I bet we'd discover at least one or two tapes that nobody has ever heard. I'm reminded of a Beatles story. In 1994, George Martin(The Beatles' producer) found an acetate of an alternate take of "Please Please Me"...IN HIS CLOSET! That is probably the most annoying thing about "lost tapes". There are probably tapes right under people's noses that are gathering dust, forgotten over the course of 40+ years.

Do you mean the Turn On Your Radio line? It sounds like Mike or more probably Sandler. Sandler can be heard on Thinkin About My Baby pretty clear.

Who's the male voice in Good Time that sings on that part that's not in the BBs version?

Down here in Australia I have left it to the last to see if it will be released locally - checked with a few stores last week and nobody knows anything about it, trolling the net I have found out that the Sony Legacy series has not be released here and has to be specially ordered on USA import.

Off to Amazon I go!!

Not sure where I heard this, but in recent years a fan brought the American Spring album to one of Brian's signings. Brian asked if he could have it.  I guess he doesn't have a copy.
Classic!

Would love to hear BW & company do "Sweet Mountain," but I've got about 100 rarities that I dream of BW playing...

Another question, has Brian said anything about the American Spring project in recent years (or, for that matter, after it's release)?

Shortly after the release of the Spring album in May 1972, I was listening to the Wolfman Jack show on KDAY, Los Angeles, (live, not on tape or syndicated at that time) when Brian Wilson called in.  He sounded like a wide-eyed little kid and, when referring to the Spring album, kept repeating, "It's better than Pet Sounds, Wolfman."

I don't think either Marilyn or Diane sing on pitch; they sing slightly flat.  Their voices are also thin, weak, and nasal.

I absolutely love Marilyn and Diane's singing on the Spring album.  Many of the songs on that album have been absolute favorites of mine since the album's release in 1972.  The expanded 1988 CD added two more songs that I totally enjoy.  When I mentioned to Marilyn (during the Wilson-Philips days) that I thought Carnie sounded a lot like her, she agreed, and said she thought Wendy sounded a lot like Brian.

On youtube there used to be a short audio clip of Brian doing some American Spring promotion in 1972 or '73 and while he sounds rather exhausted and shy on it, his voice still has its natural sweetness to it.

If that's the famed Spring promo tape, early November 1971.

It was recorded pretty late at night after a session so that's why they sound a bit tired. I like it though how loose it is, it gives you a view of Brian's personality before it really changed. Seemed like a funny guy, a little shy
