Great ! Let's hope we'll get the original mono-albums too in the not too distance future

Re: 1966 Promo Film Dates [Smiley Smile Message Board]

I think dates are given in the Badman book but as with anything in there I would run it by Andrew or Ian to confirm.

1966 Promo Film Dates [Smiley Smile Message Board]

Posted: 29 Jun 2008 03:41 AM CDT

I was just curious if we have any exact filming dates for the three promo films made in 1966.

1.  Sloop John B (the one with all the pool scenes)
2.  Wouldn't It Be Nice (the one out in the forest)
3.  Good Vibrations (the fire station film)

Granted I don't own the Pet Sounds 40th Anniversary set, so they might be in there.

I read most of the discussion and I'm not taking sides but I think he(genesim) made some interesting arguments in the first two pages - later the topic is just about throwing merda mostly. I hate it when some idiots started to attack he's person instead of his arguments just because he doesn't agree with the majority. I hate it when merda like that happens and even more so 'cos it has happened to me personally numerous times because of my politically incorrect opinions on some issues.

Just because somebody disagrees with you doesn't make him an idiot, a joke or stupid.

It is very frustrating how alike all people always are. Everywhere when ever there is an argument it is the same. Human beings are sticking to the formula so hard that it makes absolutely no hope for the future; history repeats itself and  the only thing human beings are able to advance on this earth is the destruction of the living conditions of this earth. it's pretty depressing when one stops to think about it all.

Well in this case I tried politely explaining why I feel different and genesim got insulting. I feel I overall kept myself in check though you can see from my later posts that I gave up on the guy.  Again I posted all this here because it was just so off beat that I thought you all would like to read it. To each their own of course, but still I couldn't help raising an eyebrow. I don't mind debate but I expect someone to respect what I feel too.

Well thank you. The book will be a song by song look at each original Beach Boys release with a lot of biography thrown in. There are a lot of new interviews and things I dug up. Some things I have discussed here others I haven't. It will be pretty vinyl oriented and will let people know of every US issue, boot, or unique release (like the Honey's It's Like Heaven)in the format. Of course CD buyers will find much of interest too because as I mentioned the meat of the book is the original Beach Boys releases and a lot of behind the scenes stories. If you have read Tim Reilly's book Tell Me Why on the Beatles then you basically know the format. Of course my views are somewhat subjective, but I think the facts I present in each chapter balance it out. I tried very hard not to follow what anybody else ever wrote about the group and just try to let my judgment of the Beach Boys career as a whole present itself. I do have an interested publisher but not a contract yet. I have kept pretty low key about it so far, but I do want to say this board and everyone on it has inspired me and helped convince me it was a worthwhile project. I was afraid at one point that no one would accept the view that every Beach Boys was important. I now know that's not true.

This sounds very cool, i'll buy it for sure, you can never have enough Beach Boys books! Will it include song-by-songs on the solo stuff and unreleased stuff too?

There are separate sections on those and they are fairly long. Obviously if I did a song by song look on all the boots the book would be 1000 pages or more. I focus on the vinyl boots in depth, mention other unreleased songs when I feel it's important. The solo stuff is in there, some I examine closely, some I don't. The main thrust of the book is the original Beach Boys group releases, but I actually talk about a little of everything.

Just bought 'Papa' John Phillips' "Jack Of Diamonds", which came out last year.

I have all his other solo albums ("John The Wolfking Of L.A.", "Pay Pack & Follow" and "Phillips 66"), as well as the Mamas & Papas catalogue, so I decided to get this one too.

A troubled soul, but an ace songwriter.  Thumbs Up

I thought John Phillips only released one solo album, 'Wolf King of LA' in 1970 and then dropped out. When did he make these other records?

Bluesbreakers - John Mayall & Eric Clapton

Hey, I relistened to MAF and it includes a mock-suite of songs. Who's lacking ambition?  Wink  If you took the best of Chaos, MAF and the B sides, you'd have a real kick-ass CD, maybe his best in the last 25 years.

Maybe - but the point is that Macca didn't do that, which suggests a lessening in quality control.

Re: TLOS Question (for Mr Doe in particular) [Smiley Smile Message Board]

Posted: 29 Jun 2008 03:04 AM CDT

Do you think what we have heard of TLOS is in the same league as 60's Brian?

Midnight's Another Day- yes.  IMO, it's the best song he's written since Good Vibrations.

One of his most impressive performances since, oh, the sixties, no question. I'd like to know for sure how much of it he wrote before I'll say it's one of his best compositions.

Or, perhaps maybe very heavy chains would be wrapped around the body bag.

Like I said earlier in this thread, the body bag at any burial at sea is weighted - otherwise it will inevitably float when committed, and possibly rise to the surface in a few days when the gases start forming.

The process of burial at sea has a long history - the body isn't simply checked over the side. There's a protocol and prescribed ceremony.

Have to say that I can't tell the BB version apart from the DW one -- well, I mean, except for the backing harmonies. And the DW version sorely needs something extra like that.

Same here - I've A/B'd the two versions, and they're identical to these ears, Bruce's added frills aside.

Three questions for Stebbins primiarly...(but any help appreciated) [Smiley Smile Message Board]

First of all, I want to thank Jon for all of his work and the determination to get this great new POB/Bambu set in stores. I never thought I'd see the day.

Two questions are popping into my mind as I listen, I apologize if these are common questions or have been asked to you a lot during this product's release:
1. What was Kalinch's contribution to "Love Remember Me"? It seems like he was from another 'era' (for lack of a better word) of Dennis' songwriting. Also, this is far and away my favorite Bambu track, so much emotion.
2. Has Christine McVie talked about Dennis recently, or ever to you personally? I know she's in England and retired, but she seems like such an open and friendly person (sorry, I've never met her but did see her in concert), that I don't know if she would deny an interview.
3. Do you like Bruce's production on "Love Surrounds Me" on the LA Light Album? Personally, I think it's piss-poor, the new version is much superior. Bruce's production gives it no real ambience, sucks the life right out of the tune, everything's so dry, and I don't like the particular high voice that's not McVie.

Rohan PvP System [Smiley Smile Message Board]

Posted: 29 Jun 2008 12:46 AM CDT

Rohan PK System:

You can PK once every 3 hours (real time).Normal PvP / PK, Ctrl + left click for a forced attack. However PK also will be even better, with more than 20 levels. what did you do if you just was less 20 levels? you could try to get rohan power leveling, okay, just kidding, let's go on,PK first name purple hand side is issued. Yukari Kono state name is treated like monsters. Purple name heal until about 30 seconds before the attack has passed if returned. Continue to stay on the offensive against PK then receive a penalty. PK can return after a certain time limit.

Interpersonal warfare, against monsters in a separate calculation of damage is calculated. PvM 70%. (The figures are adjusted join various possibilities.) Monster Boss Always rare, unique items drop. Characterized by it's extraordinary strong level, get rohan power leveling one more time? lol...for the only way to bring them down is by joining a party.

PvP System:

Every player gets to pvp when they reach level 30 and the vengeance system is a little list on the top left corner near below your HP,MP bars.

It record the name of whoever killed you, and you get ONE chance to revenge. How it work, is giving you one chance to Teleport to that person's near by area. No matter if you succeed in killing that person or not, you can't teleport to him anymore unless he killed you again.

But there are exceptions, Dhan and Dekan have the ability to change to red-name, with their name showing either Dhan or Dekan and not their original character's name. When they kill people, their name will not show up in the list of revenge. But the Good news is, if you successfully killed a red-name Dhan of Dekan, not only they have the chance of dropping equipment, you get EXP TOO!! They are basically a mob control by other people that's all, but their level is unknown, and they move around.at last, how could you keep that you never would be killed?the anwser what you are looking for is, rohan power leveling,is it a joke?who knows, believe it or not...

Re: Stickies [Smiley Smile Message Board]

Posted: 29 Jun 2008 12:03 AM CDT

Hum. Well, there are 20 slots per page now. The first page has eight stickies. I would suggest adding three to five slots, which would give us 15-18 open slots, assuming the stickies stay as is.

Just looking at the pages now, the first page has items from the past two days. The second page has posts from June 23-27, and the third from June 19-23. So it's clear that the items drop off pretty fast once they're gone from the front page.

BW has no access to that sort of exposure.
I think Capitol records counts as access to exposure. Whether they use their resources to get it is another thing altogether. But he absolutely does have access through them.

Exactly, also one time I heard 1971 Surf's Up playing at a Starbucks.. as well as IJWMFTT

Dennis drowned then buried at sea. Very respectful IMO.
Thought it was a great honor by Reagan in 83 and have never thought otherwise.

Did I get that wrong?  I must be losing it.  I just tried to check on Wikipedia but don't see the full name listed.  I had it in mind that they were Brian Douglas, Dennis Gage, and Carl Dennis. But my mind is finally going from years of Nutra-sweet.

Re: POB debuts in Billboard catalog chart at #8 [Smiley Smile Message Board]

Posted: 28 Jun 2008 11:24 PM CDT

Does anyone else think that Dennis' version of Only With You blows away the Beach Boys version?  I've always found Carl's vocal on that a bit too "precious" (all the you-hoo's get grating after a while).

Well.... I've been listening to the Carl's version for decades, and when a Dennis version shows up, you hope that it's got something new.... And then IMO it was Dennis basically remaking the track. I'm not saying I was 'disappointed', but it didn't shake my world. And after 45 minutes of Dennis singing, those rough vocals start to sound samey.

On the other hand, I'd rather have Dennis singing the track in Holland, at the least for variety's sake. There's never too much Carl, but.... Anyway, I think the versions measure up.

PS: I don't mind the 'hoo's'  Smiley

Dennis Gage Wilson
Murry Gage Wilson had a son Dennis Carl Wilson who had a son Gage Dennis Wilson, but there is no Dennis Gage Wilson (I think).

I like everything about the new Only With You better, not just the vocal.

Re: Dennis's burial site [Smiley Smile Message Board]

Posted: 28 Jun 2008 10:44 PM CDT

But there is a "graphic nature" of any process that deals with disposing of a dead body. Isn't it graphic to remove blood, inject chemicals, apply makeup, set out for display, then put into a box and place in the dirt? That's graphic--horrific, even. But we're more used to it. How is a box in the dirt better than a bag in the ocean?
Being embalmed and having make up applied is more respectful in my opinion. It is GREAT that a simple rock musician could have the President of the United States of America grant him a burial at sea. But the whole idea of him being "fed to the sharks" turned my stomach. Amy B asked me what I thought being buried at sea meant. Well, I actually thought that the body would have been "protected" somehow. I thought perhaps Dennis would be placed in a casket, and then lowered into the sea. Or, perhaps maybe very heavy chains would be wrapped around the body bag. If Dennis ultimately wanted to have his body be put to rest in the sea/ocean, then that's all that really matters. I just agree with Sheriff John Stone in that the whole process seems quite "graphic".

Actually, I think your first idea was pretty accurate.  It (not he) would have almost certainly been placed in a weighted bag.
