Bambu track listing [Smiley Smile Message Board] Posted: 26 Jun 2008 04:35 AM CDT I just thought it'd be interested to pose the question - what would be your ideal track listing for Bambu assuming that it came out while Denny was still around? Pacific Ocean Blue is a few minutes under 40 minutes so if you're able to, try and keep it under or around that 40 minute mark. Obviously besides the tracks on disc 2 (excluding the Taylor Hawkins track) and the bonus tracks on disc 1, you can also use the Beach Boys versions of "Baby Blue" and "Love Surrounds Me". And since "Morning Christmas" is so closely related to "Common", I guess you could use that too.

Re: aljardine.com \ [Smiley Smile Message Board] Posted: 26 Jun 2008 03:07 AM CDT Wow, not bad at all. Al is in great form and a nice vocal contribution by Steve Miller. What a peculiar voicing Miller he has and he still sounds much like Wild Mountain Honey on Fly Like An Eagle. I also recall Flea and The Chili Peppers did a rousing version of I Get Around on the MusicCares special a cupla years back. So it appears that about half of Al's album is a rehash of old BB tunes or out of the can BB stuff. I woulda been more interested to have him redo his Calif Saga stuff on there instead of HMR but, while I was hoping for more, with all the guests on the album - including CW and BW - it should be a worthwhile listen. Too bad Mike and Bruce are too stiff to go over and contribute a vocal. I know, don't tell me, "Tough management." Really looking forward to hearing Al and Bri together again . The show they did together in Long Beach sounded great...
Re: Question about this live 1965 audio on youtube [Smiley Smile Message Board] Posted: 26 Jun 2008 02:53 AM CDT yeah.. do you know a place to get the SOT live disc with the songs on them? this sitehttp://linear-zap-music.blogspot.com/2007/06/brian-loves-you.html, has almost all of them but not the live set. Re: New US singles box-set [Smiley Smile Message Board] Posted: 26 Jun 2008 02:24 AM CDT It's a specialty item, for collectors with bucks to spare only. I like it. I Count myself as a collector, but this is way out of my spending range. Too much packaging, too much repackaging, not enough new content to make it worth the bucks. Sorry, quids.
Re: Current Record Collector-issue [Smiley Smile Message Board] Posted: 26 Jun 2008 02:24 AM CDT What does Brian have to say? I've never heard/read his thoughts on POB. Brian´s quotes in Record Collector: "It surprised me to see so much soul and inspiration in Dennis. I never motivated Dennis to write; he had his own motivation. His writing style was very funky, a rock'n'roll kind of a writer. His roots he learned from The Beach Boys. He watched me produce records and he watched Carl produce and he watched Alan produce, and he just got the knack and started producing records." "Dennis' voice makes it a special record. His voice always had a charming husk to it. I've always loved that."

Re: Current Record Collector-issue [Smiley Smile Message Board] Posted: 26 Jun 2008 01:27 AM CDT Haha, Mike & Mr. Optimism, a classic. I actually like the fact that Mike tells what he really thinks and doesn't change his mind just to be everyone's darling. Here's Brian's praise for POB from a June 21 interview: How does Brian feel about this gradual recognition for his late brother? "Well, very proud actually. I'm proud of him and I think he's wonderful. He was a good singer."
80s/90s Brian covers project! [Smiley Smile Message Board] Posted: 26 Jun 2008 01:20 AM CDT I heard floating around somewhere a mooted idea for a Brian covers album focusing on his 80s and 90s stuff, this sounds like a great idea! Here's a few which could be good; LoveandMercy - Rainbow Eyes/Good kind of love/Walking down the Path of life/Spirit of rock and roll? Jonas Mcfl0nuz - You're still a mystery Don't back down - Meet me in my dreams tonight Me - Lets do it again

Re: Friends [Smiley Smile Message Board] Posted: 26 Jun 2008 12:48 AM CDT I really like this one. It's not perfect, but IMO it's *as good* as Wild Honey in its own little way. The mix seems a lot better, that's for sure, and it flows really well. A couple of duds bring this one down for me. When a Man Needs a Woman had the potential to be a *great* song, but I find that what starts off as a great musical idea falls flat fast - I can't quite explain it but it feels unfinished. Be Still sounds almost like it could have been a SS outtake. It's not a bad song, but it's weak. But Denny gives a good sneak preview for Sunflower with Little Bird. Wonderful song. Busy Doin' Nothin' improves on the theme/style of I'd Love Just Once To See You from WH (which was, incidentally, my favourite track on WH!) and is a true gem. Diamond Head is amazing. And TM, I don't hate that one as much as some people - in fact, I actually really like it. 4 stars. Track picks: Busy Doin' Nothin' (+++), Friends (+++), Diamond Head (+++), Little Bird (++), Wake The World (++), Anna Lee The Healer (+), TM (+)

Posted: 25 Jun 2008 02:51 PM CDT PR NEWSWIRE, NEW YORK, June 25 --Pacific Ocean Blue: Legacy Edition (Caribou/Epic/Legacy), the 30th anniversary reissue of the long-out-of-print musical masterpiece from the Beach Boys' Dennis Wilson, is blowing up both in the States and worldwide following its US release last Tuesday, June 17, 2008. Pacific Ocean Blue: Legacy Edition -- a two-CD collection featuring the original album in its entirety as well as bonus tracks and the first official release of songs from Bambu, Wilson's intended follow-up -- was the # 4 rock release for Amazon.com on the day of release. The album is already a top-seller in the UK and Europe having debuted at # 16 on the UK Album Chart, # 67 in the Netherlands, # 71 in Ireland, and rocketing to #5 in Norway. These feats are all the more remarkable considering that Pacific Ocean Blue was originally released more than 30 years ago and that these are current, not catalog charts. The release of Pacific Ocean Blue: Legacy Edition has been a cause for celebration among fans and press alike. "The reissue's heart lies in tracks like 'River Song' and the rollicking 'What's Wrong' -- two raw, emotional highlights that are as moody as anything Brian ever composed," wrote Rolling Stone in its four-star review of the album, while MOJO observed that "(Dennis) left behind Pacific Ocean Blue as his masterpiece, a soul-baring document of a disintegrating male psyche that is perfectly poised between pain and its transcendence." The London Observer called it "The Holy Grail for many a rock fan" while The London Guardian labeled Pacific Ocean Blue a " ... musical masterwork ... ." Additionally, the Legacy Edition received 5-star reviews in the current editions of Uncut and Record Collector. Dennis Wilson's Pacific Ocean Blue was the first solo album to be released by any of the Beach Boys and has been out-of-print and unobtainable for more than a decade except as a pricey collectors item or bootleg. The deluxe Legacy Edition marks the occasion of its 30th anniversary, and the 25th anniversary of its creator's untimely death in 1983, at age 39.
