All life is one has classic Beach Boys harmony with peak form Brian prominent. Very nice.

Shame that after the settlement a few months back these guys still can't share a stage on the 4th of July.

So near but so far I guess. At least Dave can still have a foot in both camps.

I'm thinking Babylon, myself - far fewer people! - but...the gig is not posted on Al's page.  Anybody know if it's a confirmed date?

Charles Lloyd 'Warm Waters' [Smiley Smile Message Board]

I ran across this 1971 LP today that I was not previously aware of.  All of the tracks have credited vocals  and there are several rock musicians on the record: Brian Wilson, Carl Wilson, Alan Jardine, Mike Love,  Jesse Edwin Davis,  Dave Mason, John Cipollina, and Billy Cowsill.  The Wilsons and Alan are on one track only "All Life is One" while Mike sings on that and a song which he co-wrote with Lloyd called "How Sweet".  Anyone heard this?  Is it rockish or jazz?  How would you rate it?

Oh yeah, I forgot "I Sleep Alone" (specifically the performance by Brian on youtube). It's a really nice song, but it is just funny to hear it sung by a man.  It brings up disturbing images of Brian and his male therapist, Landy.

Just curios, what would the cardboard LP poster Caribou released in conjunction with the Australian/NZ debut be worth these days?. It's the LP mugshot front and back made to look like a proper portrait with sections of the foldourt booklet marking the right hand side frame?

"Let's Go to Heaven in My Car" is pretty dire in terms of lyrics, but a catchy tune.

As for "Tomboy," it has a very nice melody and harmonies, but the lyrics are another matter entirely..."Love is a Woman," another catchy melody that I don't particularly like the lyrics too. From the MIU album "Kona Coast" has embarassing lyrics but an ace melody, from LA Light I always thought "Sumahama" was a cool, memorable melody, lyrically, not so much.

I always thought Landy had the ability to write some good lyrics ("Melt Away," "In My Car," and the 2nd version of "Don't Let Her Know" are solid lyrics that Mike Love would be proud of), but a few tunes from the 80s fit under this category: "I'm So Lonely" is too simple, "Someone to Love" is one of Brian's best rockers of the period offset by a bland set of lyrics, and "Night Time" repeats it's chorus chant far too many times  Dead Horse...

Those are my choices...

I have a serious weakspot in my heart for Hey Little Tomboy, which is probably one of the more disturbing songs ever written, particularly the whole "im gonna teach you to kiss" line, and the "shave your legs for the very first time" voice over.  It's just so, well, creepy.

At My Window is an incredible song, but the foriegn language voiceover is pretty embarrasing.

I was gonna say "student demonstration time," but then I remembered that  i actually do hate everything about that song.

Yeah... but that's only two or three pages out of something like 30 in this new set.

Jon, on the pic at the top of this thread there looks to be a repro hand-written letter beneath the packaging, am I right? Can you enlighten us (or should we wait and see!)

Thanks,

John M-not-Muir
Its a repro of the cover of one of the first 300 promo copies that DW sent out for POB, they were plain white covers with a handwritten note from him...pretty cool...i have one thanks to a very generous friend.

I guess it could be the right price considering how weak the dollar is in comparison to the pound. Deluxe means first edition, a cool fold out package with a large booklet. I think the second pressing is scheduled to be standard jewel case with reduced booklet...that's what I've been told.

That MG must be a tight fit. I have a 1970 MG and at 5' 11'' it is not the most comfortable. Mike at well over 6 feet ( and 67 years old! ) must find it a squeeze.
