"It brings to my mind an image of the Beach Boys, Carl and Dennis especially, running around making mischief in a hotel after a gig. It also sounds like it's an inside joke."

Getting the clap in Europe!

"Like many of his leads from this time period, I think Mike's voice sounds really, really creepy on the verses.

Teenage gamblers sittin' in a Rambler...when it starts up the sound of his voice and the way he is singing give me the mental image that he is peepin' through somebodies blinds or something.

Plus it's just so corny, but Carl's parts make it listenable."

Yeah, I agree.

3. A minor footnote will be the Smile Era. Even though the music was not heard by the masses, it WAS legendary for many years in the music field, and influenced enough artists/musicians who tried to emulate some of the music in the ensuing years.

A minor quibble here.  Smile did reach #13 in 2004.   Obviously, enough of the masses heard it and certainly appreciated it.

Otherwise, you make some good points.

Has the site been down a lot lately? [Smiley Smile Message Board]

Posted: 23 Jul 2008 05:03 AM CDT

Lately, I seem to have more trouble than using acessing this site from my computer at home. I've been getting the 404 error a lot lately.
Has the site been having problems, or is it just the tin can attached with string that I'm using as a PC the problem?

Nothing like Good Vibrations had been done before in th 500+ years of music.

As much as it might pain some to admit, Brian(along with a few others) truly DID innovate by fully realizing the potential of the recording-studio-as-instrument. Some pioneering attempts had begun before that, but he and a few others(Phil Spector, the Beatles) truly did innovate in that respect.

As far as innovations to ROCK/POPULAR music, he obviously innovated a lot--in the broader context of all music, however, I suppose his contributions were minimal.

Now, in the grand history of 500 years+of Western music: what contributions to MUSIC did Mozart make? Or Beethoven? How were things changed?

I suppose contributing to music and influencing what comes after are, in fact, and despite what other people here seem to think, very similar things.

"You fell in love with a pretty cheerleader, I even married one..."

One-up-manship or what? "Hey Brian, you wanted, but Cousin Mike got, therefore Cousin Mike is better"?

I made the "awful" mistake of visiting the Blueboard, right after Mike & Bruce played their gigs over here in England, during April. I was so keen to show my enthusiasm and genuine enjoyment of the shows (London and Birmingham, for me).

Apparently, I had the audacity to say how much I really enjoyed the shows (and I don't telll lies; I DID) and that I thought Scott Totten had pulled the band together wonderfully well, for which I was BLASTED and told that  if it was not a Brian Wilson show then it was no good, at all, etc.  etc. ad nauseum.

Having a very hard time understanding the mindset there (and a few poeple who post there fairly regularly are friends of mine - but not quite a fanactical as the rest!) and no have no desire to look at, let alone post there, any more.

Can you explain to me WHY there are such very different mindsets on each BB/BW related Boards, when surely we are  all (supposed to be) fans of the same group of people?

Susie Cincinatti 1" style="width:400px
Agree, that's sad news. The song Susie Cincinnati's a great rocker, one I used to play full blast when I was younger and didn't have a partner with sensitive ears! Sorry to hear the inspiration has passed away.

But that photo Eric  -  why is Susie hanging out with the Village People!?!?!  I mean, WHAT is Mike wearing and WHO did his hair? (and who stole his short and left a bath plug in its place?)
