Just saw a couple of great music video versions of "Getcha Back" on YouTube -- one a live version, one an actual music video.

What did you guys think of the music video?  Do you think the girl's name is a nod to the song "Wendy"?

- Chris

Definitely a nod to the song of the same name. Kinda sweet and touching too.

BTW, I enjoy all of your BB covers. Nice job!

Really sad to hear this, Earl is one of those guys I longed to meet.

Solid drummer, great feel, and the way he and Hal locked in on those J&D cuts beats any quantization you could do these days.  Another Wrecking Crewer gone...another legacy committed to the aether.

See the thread in the "General Music" section of the board for details, but Earl passed away at 84.

Some of the BB cuts he played on:  Please Let Me Wonder, Sherry She Needs Me, It's About Time, Seasons In The Sun, Life Is For The Living, Deep Purple, It's Over Now, Still I Dream Of It, Sumahama, and Song Within A Song (unreleased and unbooted 1980 track).  And tons of Jan & Dean stuff.

Sorry, I was just coming back to edit a "but I get your point"in, but you beat me to it.

Well so do I. But I think it's obvious what I meant: the record industry is failing overall and one big reason is that people are otherwise acquiring music online. No chart, be it the overall pop chart or internet chart or whatever, very accurately represents what people are getting and listening to.

The most recent post on my blog (http://audioarchives.blogspot.com/) showcases an RKO-produced and Dave Roberts-hosted radio show called "The Hot Ones" that features music from and interviews with the Beach Boys of 1985.

Thanks.  I remember hearing this one on the air while cruising in my car back in the summer of '85.  Been looking for it since!  Glad to have it.

Re: The TLOS variants [Smiley Smile Message Board]

I've lost track of just what one will have to buy to "have it all" for TLOS.

What beyond:
TLOS- standard CD release
TLOS-standard CD/DVD release
TLOS-US Best Buy CD/DVD with bonus material
Thanks

I already bought the vinyl version. There's Japanese vinyl as well. And of course the Japanese cardboard-version (ordered that one). No bonuscuts on those though.

Update: not just cardboard, but gatefold. A mini-LP. I just picked up my order at my local recordstore. Great little package, very faithful to the vinyl version. Cover is exact the same (the cover of the regular CD-release differs from the vinyl release. Front, back (except from the Side A and B mentioning), and artwork on the inside. Even the label of the vinyl was used for the CD (the orange of the vinyl's A-side). Lyrics are on a foldout paper though (otherwise it would be unreadable). Plus of course the obligatory obistrip and Japanese lyrics.

And now to find out if the audioquality is also from the vinyl master.... (which would be an improvement from the other CD's, reading all compressing-comments)

Re: Travis Barker in critical condition after plane crash [Smiley Smile Message Board]

Posted: 20 Sep 2008 12:08 PM CDT

Quote
WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and celebrity DJ AM were critically injured in a fiery Learjet crash in South Carolina that killed four people, authorities said Saturday.

Officials said the plane carrying six people was departing shortly before midnight Friday when air traffic controllers reporting seeing sparks. The plane hurtled off the end of a runway and crashed through antennas and a fence. It came to rest on an embankment across a five-lane highway and was engulfed in flames, said Debbie Hersman, a member of the National Transportation Safety Board.

Barker and DJ AM, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, were in critical condition at a burn center in Augusta, Ga., about 75 miles southwest of Columbia, hospital spokeswoman Beth Frits said.

Two other passengers — Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City, Calif., and Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles — died, as did pilot Sarah Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim Hills, Calif., and co-pilot James Bland, 52, of Carlsbad, according to the county coroner.

The plane was headed for Van Nuys, Calif. It is owned by Global Exec Aviation, a California-based charter company, and was certified to operate last year, Hersman said. The company said it had no immediate comment.

At the crash site Saturday, the air was still heavy with the odor of jet fuel. A trail of black soot led off a runway. The nose of the aircraft was gone and the roof was missing from two-thirds of the charred plane.

Barker and Goldstein had performed together under the name TRVSDJ-AM at a free concert in Columbia on Friday night.

"It's absolutely terrible and tragic," Columbia Mayor Bob Coble said.

The show, which included performances by former Jane's Addiction singer Perry Farrell and singer Gavin DeGraw, drew 10,000 people into the streets of Five Points, the neighborhood near the University of South Carolina, Coble said.

One concertgoer said TRVSDJ-AM's performance was unique and different.

"It was literally one of the best shows I've ever seen," said Brett Flashnick, a freelance photographer who works for The Associated Press and attended the concert for a local newspaper.

Barker, 32, was one of the more colorful members of the multiplatinum-selling punk rock band Blink-182, whose biggest album was 1999's CD "Enema of the State," which sold more than five million copies in the United States alone.

After Blink-182 disbanded in 2005, Barker went on to form the rock band (+44) — pronounced "plus forty-four." He also starred in the MTV reality series "Meet the Barkers" with former Miss USA Shanna Moakler, to whom he was married at the time. The show documented the former couple's lavish wedding and life. Their later split, reconciliation and subsequent break up made them tabloid favorites.

Goldstein is a popular DJ for hire who at one time was engaged to Nicole Richie.

He spun a mix of hip-hop and dance beats for the hottest nightclubs and had a string of dates set up for the next few weeks. He reached the peak of his celebrity perhaps during his highly publicized romance with Richie a few years ago.

DJ AM also dated singer/actress Mandy Moore, and while he became a gossip favorite for his romances, he drew respect from music aficionados for his DJ skills.

Barker and Goldstein performed as part of the house band at the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this month.

Forget POB, I always wondered what he thought of the Doors. "Wild Honey" reminds of the Doors sound in ways (Morrison said he liked it, didn't he?), although placed firmly within the Beach Boys idiom,  and the whole Marcella/Beatrice from Baltimore/Burlesque thing in the early 70s also reminds me of the Doors RnB leanings. Plus, Brian and the Doors loved organs, and I'm not talking just about Morrison's crawling king snake.

Just so you know, TLOS didn't even make the top 200 in France.  Undecided

Interesting..... As this was the only place I heard the album promoted, on a French radio station in early/mid August  whilst on a weeks holilday?!

The presale starts at 10 am on 9/26 and the password is lucky!!!!  I've been trying to get a little meet up going with some of the "folks" on BW.com, but I just can't work with those people!!!! Too sarcastic or something. Anyway, if anyone wants to meet up before even in front of the theater (I'll be smoking at the curb!), or inside the venue, that will work. I think that it would be nice to say hello to the fellow BB.BW.et al freaks amongst ourselves that we converse with during the year!!! If inot, I'm going to have to pop for a ticket for my sister in law who doesn't really care about BW anyway, just to have someone to talk to!!!!!! Help me people!!!!
